The Day Centre was funded by intensive fund-raising from Age Concern Southampton and Southampton Rotarians and was opened in November 1985 by Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Kent.
Padwell Road is now considered a centre of excellence, providing a bright, comfortable environment with state of the art facilities and a welcoming atmosphere. Thanks to extra funding by Southampton City Council, the Centre has been able to adopt a more client-centred approach to day-care, enabling staff to work on individual projects with clients.
In the morning specially adapted minibuses collect the clients from home and bring them to Padwell Road where they are welcomed into the warm and comfortable day room. They are then able to spend the day with company, activities and a home-cooked delicious lunch.
The dedicated staff provides a wide choice of daily activities. These range through specially adapted gentle physical exercise, quizzes, cookery, reminiscence sessions, discussions on current event topics, artwork and handicrafts. The exhibitions of art and needlework, all crafted by members, to celebrate specific national events, are superb. Padwell Road has its own small hairdressing salon and can also provide personal care such as bathing and podiatry.
Clients can be referred to Padwell Road Day Care Centre by their GP or Care Manager.
