BREAST CANCER STUDY

Macmillan Cancer Support and the University of Southampton have now begun their latest research study in the city and surrounding region. They are looking for women who are aged 70 years and over, have had breast cancer, and are willing to talk to a researcher about their experiences.

Very little is known about the breast cancer experiences of women aged 70 years and over. The findings of the study will therefore allow health professionals and charities like Macmillan to be more aware of what they can do to help make things easier and better.

If you would like to take part in the study or find out more about it all you need to do is call Lisa Bryan at the University, on 02380 596885. Alternatively, you can write to: Lisa Bryan, School of Nursing & Midwifery, University of Southampton, SO17 1BJ.

NATIONAL NEWS

PROPOSED CHANGES TO SOCIAL CARE

The government is planning a review of how older people are looked after, aiming for a "fairer" system. The current mix of state and personal provision for care has many faults, including being confusing and bureaucratic. The government has announced a "consultation" prior to changes in the law and budgets and Age Concern and similar organisations will be making a major contribution to this review.
