WHAT DOES

“LIFE TO THE FULL”

“Life to the full” is here to help you get the most out of life. We support and nurture activities which promote health and social wellbeing for anyone over the age of 50. From community gardening projects to senior citizens activity groups. From aqua aerobics to bird watching, amateur dramatics to archery, from cycling to lunch clubs.

If you have an interest and you want to get involved or find out what activities are going on in your area, contact us via phone or by email. We have a huge data base of all the activities going on in Southampton at community centres, churches, leisure centres and many other local venues.

We also run a 50 plus health mentors program. We recognise that some people are nervous about joining a new group or a new activity. The volunteer mentoring scheme can offer you the opportunity to pair up with a volunteer who will help you get settled in your new activity of club and make you feel more comfortable. If you want to join a club or even if you are in a club and want to recruit new members, get in touch today and live “life to the full”.

THE “LIFE TO THE FULL” REFERRALS SCHEME

Some medical conditions, in either the short or long term, can make it difficult to live your life to the full. The “life to the full” referrals scheme offers you a different way to gain the health and social benefits of exercise. We are an alternative to the framework of Southampton City Council “Active Options”. Active Options offers some gym or pool based activity programs to clients directly on referral by the GP.

“Life to full” understands that these programs do not suit everyone. If we can’t offer you something that suits your needs and is flexible to your circumstances you will not get the health benefits and combat or manage your identified medical concern.  We offer anyone over the age of 50 a wide range of social and physical activity options within local clubs and societies. The ones best suited to you, are most likely to become adopted and work towards your goals. Our coordinator will take account of your preferences and medical conditions before offering you a choice of activities within your area.

Each activity has at least one in- house 50+ health mentor who will assist you to settle into the new environment and act as a point of contact if you have any questions or concerns.

“Healthy Eating Project”

Age Concern Southampton’s holistic approach to the well-being of people in their later years has led to the development of the Healthy Eating Project, part of the Ageing Well initiative. The project not only recognises the importance of nutrition in good health, but also as a vehicle for social interaction, learning new skills and gaining confidence for independent living.

Age Concern Southampton’s fresh and innovative approach to healthy eating will provide information, practical advice and workshops, giving an educational, functional and fun insight into all aspects of good nutrition and food.

Please contact Ian Silver, the Healthy Eating Project Worker for further information regarding the project at the Age Concern Southampton Office on 023 8036 8636.
