Inter-Generational Projects

Learning mobile phone skills - young people from Solent Youth Action, Southampton City College and Solent University have been teaching senior citizens how to use all of the functions on their mobiles, enabling them to keep in contact with friends and family through text messaging. This is a monthly session.

Time for Heroes - young people from Southampton City College and Solent University have listened to Southampton residents' wartime memories, and engaged in a writing workshop on the theme of war with James Marsh - who has published his memories of wartime Southampton. We would like to repeat this project.

Computer Classes - young people from Southampton City College and Solent University have been teaching senior citizens computer skills on a regular basis, giving them the opportunity to communicate electronically with relatives abroad, access information and shop and bank online. These classes take place twice a week at the Third Age Centre

Arts and Crafts - young people from Southampton City College volunteer to assist with art classes for senior citizens at the Third Age Centre on a weekly basis. We are also looking for young people who can share crafts skills with the older generation, or young people who would like to learn from the older generation.

Have an idea for an inter-generational project? Or would you like to get involved?
