BME (Black and Minority Ethnic) Project

Our BME Project supports local ethnic minority community groups. Recent Acheivements include:

·         A new BME Health Support Group was set up following recognition by the BME Steering Group of the need to provide a greater focus on specific health issues affecting BME communities.  This group aims to help raise awareness and provide information, advice and support, particularly for those who face language and cultural barriers.

·         Established good links with the Hyde Housing  Association, and provided BME volunteers to help with their  ‘In-Touch Project’.  The Project Co-ordinator is working closely with Hyde Housing to support independence of BME communities, and particularly individuals who are housebound.

·         The Project Co-ordinator and volunteers helped to organise a ‘Flavours from India’ fundraising event for the Black Heritage Centre on 30th April. The event included Indian music, singing, food and a small exhibition of Indian items and clothing with an opportunity to wear a Sari. Over £325.00 was raised for the Centre.

·         A ‘Play Project’ with the Forest Forge Drama Company has been organised.  This will create brand new plays, one with Black Heritage and a second with Asian Elders.  Eight sessions were organised where participants had the opportunity to act, sing and mime on different themes.
